HELSINKI (AP) — Amsterdam has been chosen to host the 2016 European athletics championships.
The Dutch city beat rival bids from Istanbul, Turkey, and Split, Croatia. The European Athletics Council said Friday Amsterdam was "the outstanding candidate" to host the 23rd edition of the event.
Helsinki is hosting the championships next year, and the Swiss city of Zurich will hold them in 2014.
