NSW: Work for the dole participants to be allowed to do overtime

SYDNEY, April 13 AAP - The federal government would let job seekers do overtime onwork for the dole projects to rush them through mutual obligation programs, it was reportedtoday.

Job seekers would be able to work more than the present limit of 15 hours a week over26 weeks to fast-track their work for the dole obligations and receive an $800 bonus,the Sunday Telegraph said.

Employment Services Minister Mal Brough said the measures would let jobseekers getinto training programs faster.

"Currently, work for the dole involves a commitment of two days a week," he told the newspaper.

"Under the new regime, from July 1 participants can work additional hours - up to threedays a week - on their existing work for the dole project.

"From January 1 next year, it may also be possible for work for the dole participantsto work on two activities concurrently and fast-track their hours."

The $800 bonus at the completion of the mutual obligation period is in the form ofa training voucher.
