Alittle bit of River North has been built into Forest Park,where a massive overhaul of a former paint company has created homeand office space for a two-career couple.
The three-story commercial storefront at 7349 W. Madison is hometo Mel and Barbara Smith. The building houses her art studio and abusiness called Smithworks, the contracting firm Mel operates withhis partner and son, Randy.
The 1,800-square-foot living space on the top floor is ashowcase to the talents of the Smith clan. The couple consulted withtwo designers on the plan, and Smithworks did the actual work.
